Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the latest addition to the Transformers movie franchise. The movie follows the same premise as the previous movies, where bad robots are out to destroy and dominate, leaving the Autobots to protect Earth. In this movie, a new villain named Scourge, voiced by Peter Dinklage, comes to Earth in search of a device that will allow easy travel through universes. The Autobots team up with the animal-themed Autobots, the Maximals, to stop Scourge. What sets this movie apart from the previous ones is the introduction of charismatic and fun-to-watch human characters.
Anthony Ramos plays Noah, a likable and naturally funny character who takes care of his sick younger brother and is doing his best to provide for his family. Dominic Fishback plays Elena, a wildly intelligent and tough young woman who shares a tender moment with Noah that makes them a great team. The action sequences in the movie are well-choreographed, and the camera captures the fights in long takes, allowing the audience to see the blows land and the bodies ripped apart. The effects are done well, with the textures and shadings of all the robots mimicking realism. The soundtrack features amazing hip-hop from artists like Wu-Tang, LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest, and Notorious B.
.G. The movie maintains excitement by keeping the story moving at a quick pace, with just a bit of downtime between action sequences before ramping back up with a chase or a huge battle. The story devices are familiar, making the progressions easy to predict, but the engaging and charismatic human counterparts make up for it. Overall, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a fun entry in the Transformers Universe and is loads better than some of the sequels.
It is sure to satisfy fans of the franchise, especially those who love nostalgia. The movie has a mid-credit scene that may appear corny, but it is sure to excite fans of the franchise. The movie has no nudity, some profanity, and a ton of violence. The movie gets a rating of three and a half out of five couches.
