Paranormal (2021) Netflix Original Series Review

we've got Paranormal and goblins well not all of those but certainly, some find their way into the new Netflix original series paranormal the show feels like it's a mild cross between the x-files and kolcek the night stalker so does that mean you should be checking it out

A Scientist finds himself facing a series of supernatural or at least unexplained events and people are looking to him for the answers Rafat is our main character and he looks like he's a cross between rick Moranis and inspector kluzeau and I love how much of a skeptic he is I mean he's a scientist and so everything has to be based in reality it has to be based on the fact

there is a rational explanation for everything but what happens when he runs up against something that isn't that way i like that he's not so stubborn that he can't consider alternative views and some of the fun comes because he scoffs at those, so what makes his character sound earing and ultimately likable he's a bit bumbling he's timid odd sometimes grumpy but always inquisitive and driven or at least compelled by something

he's also got this set of laws that he narrates throughout the show now they're not rules that he follows but they're more along the lines of murphy's law they're things that happen to Rafat and most of the time they're sarcastically humorous now i like how they build the mystery surrounding the characters and the ultimate story and it's not readily available or at least apparent right from the get-go i mean you have to go on the ride and experience it for it to unveil itself throughout each episode and at times it may feel like the story is a bit confused like they're not absolutely sure where they're going with it but really i think that was more me trying to decipher what was going on or trying to solve the puzzle before the show was ready

for me to have all the answers to do so the dynamics of the characters are really interesting also especially within rafat's family because they tend to rub each other the wrong way and this is a different culture that i'm used to and so i appreciate being able to look into a different family structure and just see how they function and ultimately though you see that they do care for each other and that they do love each other even though they may bicker and they may just pick at each other almost all the time one of the things that i appreciated with the series 2 is the interpersonal relationships between rafat and several of the different characters and each of them has a different facet and you see how it pulls just some different angles and different motions from rafat himself but also how it adds different complications to the story

there are a lot of layers of complexity that go into building not only rafat but just everybody that he comes in contact with and it spans over years and not just what we're seeing in the immediate now in the show they douse cgi and sometimes it's not good i mean it is terribly obvious that what they're using is cgi there's a couple of moments in this a couple of scenes where it is just not unwatchable but it feels really cheap but other times the visuals they're powerful and they become a little bit spooky but i gotta say the series it isn't scary it does create a good atmosphere though it sits somewhere between that sci-fi and otherworldly realm kind of asking us are there really ghosts and curses can everything be rationally explained and i love how rafat continues to battle that throughout each episode

while there is some goodness in this and there's a good amount of subtle humor they also balance it out with some sadness i mean it really does create a good sense of drama and what that did is that just sucked me into the story, even more, the way they were able to balance the emotions just really kept me involved and i was a little surprised by the amount of sadness that is contained in the last couple of episodes now that's not a bad thing I just didn't think that the series was going to get as emotional as it did

i got to see the first episode a couple of days early and i was goingto review it and i thought you know what i better hold off because i don't know exactly what the entire series is going to contain i mean i was interested in the first episode it held me a little bit but it wasn't one of those that just grabbed me by the shirt caller and said you must watch every single thing from now on because this is going to be amazing and from watching that first episode i thought maybe that each episode would have a stand alone story and that there would be a larger story that plays out in the background throughout the entire series but really that's not the case i mean more so than anything this is an on going story that builds and builds from each episode and i love how they're connected because it builds to an excitingend each of the six episodes is under an hour they sit in that range of 45 to 55 minutes each also has a myth that is drivingthat portion of the story but like i said it is still continually building on the larger story as a whole and it's not sitting in the background i mean that truly is

the driving force of the entire season so i ended up having a lot of fun with this because it was it pulled me in and it kept me engaged and it kept me guessing too i especially connected with rafat he made me laugh but i also felt for him a lot which justendeared me to him i mean i wanted the best for his character and when things would happen to him whether good or bad i was on that emotional roller coaster along with him and i love it when a series has a relatable character like that now i don't see myself necessarily in him or him and me but it was just cool to be able to feel for somebody and to go along that ride the relationships and the theme of family throughout is a lot of fun also i mean that's one of the things that really hooked me in and kept me going i mean yes there is the mystery there is the intrigue and even some of the the creepiness that goes along with that even though it's not scary but really that underlying theme of family that drives everything and i like how they left some things right for the endand i love

how they put some of the pieces together and even the ending shot has this feel of like a 70s horror movie and I'm not saying that as a bad thing or even as a cheesy thing I mean i just liked the closing shot I thought it was done really well and it just added to the overall mood of everything now the entire set of this is kind of in the early 60s so you have the cars that match that era and all of the dress and it creates an entire atmosphere that is fun to watch I'm really excited to see where they're going to take another season there's no sex and nudity some profanity and a lot of violence including sexual violence I give paranormal four and a half out of five couches is there a supernatural-ish type of show that you really enjoy let me know what that is in the comments below if you enjoyed this review
